tmactive - finalists in the Kent Dementia Action Alliance Awards 2018

We are pleased to announce that we have been nominated, shortlisted and are now finalists at this year’s Kent Dementia Action Alliance Awards (Kent DAA) in the Sports & Leisure Organisation category.

The Kent Dementia Action Alliance Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication undertaken during the year to improve the lives of people living with dementia in Kent. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Friday 5 October, taking place at The Mercure Maidstone Great Dane’s Hotel.

Says Suzy Abbott, tmactive’s Health & Wellbeing Co-ordinator, “We are extremely pleased to be nominated for an award that recognises the work we have been doing to help people living with dementia become or stay active.  To be nominated alongside one of our most important partners, Tonbridge DFC, and a host of other Tonbridge-based companies/organisations is fantastic news.”

Getting active at the multi-sport, swim and golf sessions can improve physical and mental health and also the quality of life for people in all stages of dementia.  The multi-sport session takes place fortnightly at the Angel Centre on the first and third Friday of every month between 2pm and 3.30pm.  Sports on offer include table tennis, cycling on a static bike, short tennis, golf putting and boccia.  The instructor begins each session with a warm up and finishes with a stretch.

Older swimmerTonbridge Swimming Pool has designated a Dementia Friend at the public swim session on Fridays from 12.15pm to 1.15pm.  Participants can be guided to the changing rooms, met on poolside and receive suggestions for activities in the water.

Poult Wood Golf Course offers golf mornings on the second Tuesday of every month from 11am onwards.  The session includes a round on the 9 Hole Course, tuition on the Driving Range and coffee/tea in the Clubhouse after the game.

Martin Guyton, tmactive’s CEO says, “I am very pleased that tmactive has been shortlisted for a Kent DAA award this year. There is a strong dementia-friendly community in Tonbridge and we are proud to be a part of it!”
