Winner Geoff Cox

On Thursday 11 June Brian Bayross held his Vets Captain's Day at Poult Wood. As well as Poult Wood Golf Club Veterans, an invitation was extended to guests of the Club. Some 50 players took part on what turned out to be a fine (but windy) day and a great time was had by all!

As is traditional, prizes were awarded for the Handicap Categories 0-20 and 21+. These were reserved for Poult Wood Veterans only. All players however, were eligible to compete for the Hole-in-One prize on the 7th and Nearest the Pin on the 17th.  Humphries and Parks (H & P) of West Malling, kindly sponsored a Hole-in-One competition. The Prize, a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV for a long weekend, was in support of Brian's Charity, Parkinson's UK. The Overall Winner was Geoff Cox and Bill Jermey won the 21+ Category. Tony Barden was the Guest section winner. Sadly, no one won the Car.

Players donated a range of prizes for the charity raffle which raised £315. H & P also kindly donated the first Prize viz. Free Use of the Car for a long weekend. Donations were also received from: AZRA Catering, Waitrose Ltd, Notcutts Garden Centre, David Copsey and The Nuts (Barbers).

This was Brian's last year as Vets Captain and he was keen to express his thanks to all the PWGC Vets who attended, especially David Reed, Barrie Bromley, John Lovett and Roger Winton whose help on the day was much appreciated; his wife Angela and Barrie's wife Lee, who cheerfully dispensed 'refreshments' at the 10th hole.  He extended his thanks to H & P who fielded a team of three and Manager Daryl Pimbley for his support.

The 18 Hole par 68 Course is 5,524 yards (5,050 metres) and offers a well balanced blend of par 3s, 4s and a par 5. Designed to challenge the more accomplished golfer but also to give beginners reassurance in their own ability and the opportunity to learn and improve their game, the course is quite tight, with lots of tree-lined fairways, so you need to be in control of the ball. It's also very user friendly and mature, with wonderful vistas from the Club House. View the 18 Hole Scorecard.
