HFE (Health & Fitness Education)

HFE is our training and development partner who deliver education and training products to our team members.

HFE (Health and Fitness Education), is a leading active leisure industry training and education provider that have been delivering regulated qualifications and specialist exercise and fitness courses for over 15 years. Whether it’s a fitness instructor qualification, a personal trainer course, or something more specialist, like the exercise referral qualifications we’ve recently purchased, we’re confident that HFE can and will deliver the essential knowledge and skills that our team members need to succeed, helping to improve outcomes for our service users.

Here at tmactive, our vision is simple; to get more people, more active, more often. We’re absolutely committed to making this vision become a reality throughout Tonbridge and Malling and beyond, and our team are focused on raising participation in exercise, physical activity, and generally helping our community to make better lifestyle choices so that collectively, we all become healthier and happier.

tmactive team members are already completing a range of additional qualifications to provide a wide-range of specialist services to our users, including fitness instructor and exercise referral. Whether it’s a fitness instructor qualification, a personal trainer course, or something more specialist, like the exercise referral qualifications we’ve recently purchased, we’re confident that HFE can and will deliver the essential knowledge and skills that our team members need to succeed, helping to improve outcomes for our service users.Specifically, the Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral will equip our team members with a broad range of specialist knowledge that will enable them to better design exercise programmes that meet the needs of people with long-term health conditions, like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and around 12 other chronic health conditions.

According to data published by the Kent Public Health Observatory (Health and Social Care Maps), around 6.8% of people over the age of 17 are living with diabetes, 14.7% of adults have hypertension, 5.6% live with asthma, and 2.1% are affected by COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). Around 21% of people in the Tonbridge and Malling district die prematurely of cardiovascular and circulatory disease. Almost all of these conditions can be significantly improved and better controlled with a structurally appropriate exercise programme, and this is what the exercise referral qualification will enable our team to deliver to our communities.

Rick Gardiner, Head of Operations at HFE said:

The Team and I at HFE are delighted to partner with tmactive, supporting their drive to improve health, wellbeing and physical activity levels in the Tonbridge and Malling District. We’re excited for the forthcoming training activities, and the positive impact for the district.

Steve Foy, Health & Fitness Manager at Larkfield Leisure Centre said:

Having had feedback from one of our instructors regarding the quality of both the course and support from HFE, it became apparent that we could trust their courses to upskill our workforce. I look forward to working closely with the team at HFE and to our members receiving the benefits of the staff’s new qualifications.

tmactive team members will receive specialist training delivered online, in-person, and via the dedicated team of health and fitness support tutors at HFE. The online portion of the exercise referral programme is also delivered by a practicing GP who previously worked as a personal trainer. This level of instruction just isn’t available anywhere else, and we’re confident it will have a positive impact on our services.

The Angel Centre has formed a partnership with Tonbridge Sports Association (TSA) which has the following objectives.

Tonbridge sports clubs formed an Association in May 1920 for the purpose of controlling sports grounds in the town, now its role is that of Sports Council. Its objectives are:

  • to promote and encourage all forms of organised sport in Tonbridge and surrounding areas.
  • to work with TMBC in the administration of grounds and facilities.
  • to act as the representative of sports clubs in dealing with TMBC and other bodies.

The TSA continuing dialogue with clubs and the Council enables considerable sports participation in the area throughout the year. Further information on sports and clubs can be obtained from Alan Nicholl on 01732 850894.
