Meet our Trustees
Tonbridge & Malling Leisure Trust is governed by a board of 11 voluntary Trustees, made up of local residents, two serving Members of the Council and a member of staff from the Trust. They bring with them an impressive range of experience and knowledge from a variety of sectors, including accountancy, education, business, human resources and IT. The Board work with the Chief Executive and the executive management team to make strategic policy and planning decisions and to guide the organisation.
Alan Nicholl - Chair
Since 1998 Alan has been Chairman of the Tonbridge Sports Association (TSA), an organisation that represents sports clubs in Tonbridge and surrounding areas. The TSA is reported to be one of the largest independent Sports Associations in the UK with over 50 clubs covering 20 different sports. A retired Chartered Accountant, Alan was a keen tennis player and at a very early age was a semi-professional footballer.
Kim Bennett
Kim has worked for tmactive for 25 years and is the staff representative on the Board. After studying Leisure & Tourism at sixth form, Kim became a full time member of staff at the Centre and worked her way up to Team Leader and Stand-in Duty Manager before taking on the role of Sales Co-ordinator. She is a keen swimmer and qualified swim teacher.
Mark Davis
Born and brought up in Tonbridge, Mark was a Councillor with TMBC between 2007 and 2023 and from the formation of tmactive served as a local authority appointed trustee, but has subsequently remained as a trustee. Mark is Senior Partner with local firm Warners Solicitors which he joined in 1988. Mark was a governor at Tonbridge Grammar School for 17 years and currently also serves as a trustee of the Upper Medway Internal Drainage Board. He is a Vice President of Tonbridge Juddians Rugby Club.
Pia Philbey
Pia and her family moved to East Malling in February 2022 and in an interest to get involved in her community became a trustee in May the same year. Pia has been involved in the Outdoor industry for the last 15 years and is a fully qualified British Canoeing Coach and Swim England Swim Teacher. Pia has worked with Children and Adults from all backgrounds including those with SEN and Behavioural needs. You may see her out on her Paddle-board on the River Medway with her family or at Larkfield Leisure Centre enjoying the slides.
Simon White
Simon and his family moved to Tonbridge five years ago. He is a Chartered Management Accountant and for the past six years has been the Finance Director at AXA Art Insurance. Outside of work, Simon is a trustee of the Museum Valuation Charitable Trust, plays golf at Poult Wood and enjoys mountain biking and running. His family regularly visit the Angel Centre and Tonbridge Swimming Pool.
Duncan Scott
Duncan and his wife Liz moved to Kit’s Coty, near Aylesford 20 years ago. During that time they became keen triathletes, helping to create the triathlon section of Larkfield AC (based at LLC) and becoming qualified triathlon coaches. Duncan’s day job is management consultancy in the banking sector. Duncan has been a long term user of the swimming pool at Larkfield, and also loves to swim at Leybourne Lakes in Leybourne Country Park.
Vidhya Ratnam
Vidhya and her family moved to Tonbridge seven years ago from London. She is a Chartered Accountant with over two decades of experience in London’s financial markets across Banking, Big-4 audit firms, FinTech and is currently a Director in an European bank’s finance department. She is also a trustee at The Forum at Greenwich, a London based inclusive community centre. She and her family are regular users of the Angel Centre and Tonbridge Swimming Pool.
Tim Bishop
Tim was elected to the Borough Council in 2011, representing Larkfield with his appointment to the Trust in 2019. He owns an Educational Supply Company specialising in the supply of Design & Technology components. He owns an Educational Supply Company specialising in the supply of Design & Technology components.
Tim has enjoyed being involved in sport throughout his life, mainly football – represented Kent School boys – and cricket, playing at local level in the Sevenoaks area. He now restricts himself to limited recreational golf and sport in the media.
Keith Tunstall
Keith moved to Tonbridge in 1995 and commuted to London before retiring in 2017, after 41 years as an Underwriter in the Lloyd’s Insurance market. He has always been a keen sportsman, primarily playing rugby and hockey, but now, due to age, he spends more time on the golf course and cycling. For over 20 years, he has been a member of Tonbridge Town Sailing Club and for over 25 years, a member of the Angel Centre gym. Keith is appointed by TMBC in his capacity as an elected Borough Councillor.
