Larkfield Leisure Centre Roof Works

VE1J01731The Leisure Pool & Teaching Pools at Larkfield Leisure Centre are now closed until late May 2020 to allow for the removal and replacement of the Pool Hall polycarbonate roof. The Fitness Pool and all other areas of the building remain open and the Centre’s full activity programme continues as normal.

The building is now 40 years old and requires some attention. The closure provides Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council (TMBC) with the opportunity to not only replace the roof with a multiwall structured polycarbonate which will deliver improved heat retention, but to make further improvements to the building, such as replacing the boilers, improving the air handling and upgrading the Leisure Pool with new features.

"The contractor, Kier Construction, have established their site compound in the car park and started work on securing the Leisure Pool Hall. This has involved draining the pools and boarding them out with timber to ensure the scaffolding does not damage the pool floors or surrounds.

A protected walkway has started to be constructed along the main walkway linking Reception to the changing areas, Gym and Spa area. In order to construct this safely we are diverting customers along poolside. A second protected walkway will be constructed between the Changing Rooms and the Fitness Pool to ensure customers can move between the two spaces safely.

We are doing all we can to minimise disruption for customers, which includes doing a lot of work overnight. Over the coming weeks a large ‘birdcage’ scaffold system will take shape in the Leisure Pool Hall, which will provide operatives access to the high level ventilation ductwork as well as the roof. Outside, scaffold will be placed next to the Sports Hall to provide access to the roof so that larger materials can be moved to and from roof level.

We will be posting regular updates as the works progress so please check this page for the latest news."

The tmactive Swim School continues to operate a full programme in the Fitness Pool. Pool platforms are being used to reduce the depth of the water around the pool and additional Level 1 swimming assistants are in lessons to provide support to teachers and children.

The Centre’s Gym, Group Exercise Studios and Immersive Spin Studio, Sports Hall, Spa and Caféalso continue to operate as normal. There will be times during the works when some areas of the building will need to close temporarily, full details of these closures will be communicated in advance.
